Default S2000 in the Snow

Hey,

I've just brought a 2000 - s2000. I intended keeping my VW Golf until after the winter (I live in Chicago).

I've just read though some of the forum and some of you guys actually drive the thing in the snow? Is it really ok with snow tires?

Cheers

With the right tires it will be no problem. Take a look at the Dunlop Winter Sport M2 and the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22. Both of these tires will give the traction you need for the winter without giving up all of the performance of the car.
Give me a call if I can help.
Thank you

What sort of price would I be looking at for a set and some steel rims.

Saying that, I want to go on the track next year and I probably want some 'sticky' tires. Would it be better it put the snow tires on the OEM rims and buy new ones for track day? The only thing is that everyday use would then be the rims used in the snow...

Cheers

Absolutely, positively, no question you can drive the S in the snow. You will have a lot of fun doing so. There are several of us in Calgary that drive our cars every day of the year.

If they gravel your roads, you may want to look at getting a clear bra as well.

Sorry, I meant gravel on top of the pavement. Maybe Chicago only uses salt.

I have the LM22's and love them.

I was originally planning on getting the WS50s, but I'm leaning more toward the LM22s as we typically don't have the heavy snowbelt type of snowfall you see along the east/southeast side of Lake Michigan. I live in the NW burbs of Chicago and the roads are usually cleared pretty rapidly leaving a layer of snow/ice/slush; after a few days the roads are clear and dry except for some of the residential streets.

Toyo Garit HT's have been an awesome choice for me. Couldn't be happier. The car is a BLAST in snow.

With the S02's = two words DEATH TRAP

With Blizzaks = Good Looking Ambulance

Car handles like sh*t in the snow. Just buy a cheap beater and you will save your life and sanity.

Personally, I recommend a used Saab. They rock in the snow and have heated seats!!

I got a 1997 Saab 900SE Turbo 2.0 with 190k miles on it. With Heated Seats. 3400 bucks
