Default S2000 tires problems

Whenever i down shift to get into VTEC, the rear tires would slip like crazy; the road was great without water/gravels/sand...i know this is not normal; my tires could be the biggest culprit; falken ZIEX 512 225/18/40 rear(i'm running 18, this is all i can afford)...I was going at 45mph one day and some guy pulls up, so i downshift to 2nd to blow him and this was when i discover the problem...
1)am i shifting at the right gear?
2)are the tires the cause
3)something wrong with the transmission?

If your tires are slipping, then it's your tires, shifting the gears, unless you're doing something like a mad man, shouldn't cause what has happened. Most likely they are worn out or not properly inflated. If the car feels smooth between gears, then you shifted at the correct time, if the engine lugs or over revs between gears, then you did not shift properly. Shifting should feel seemless to the driver and passenger.

I think you should be running 245's in the back, not 225's, so you may want to post this question in the tire forum. Mostly likely, you'll need rear tires, and you'll want the correct stagger.

Read somewhere that the S-02s in 225 actually have a 8.5" contact patch, which the equivelant to most tires in 245. My S has Michelin Pilot Sport A/S in 225 out back. Should they actually be 245?

1. Rev Match.
2. Read the threads in Wheels and Tires by The Tire Rack.

20 post your first day lol.... But those tires are not the best for grip, it woudl def be the tires, also if yoru on18's and your alignment you wil also have less tire contact to the ground

Those Falkens are pretty good all-season tires, but they are also a little skinny to start with. 225 ain't helping.

I figured it was the tires, but the mini-burn out at 45 makes the car looks faster than it is...scares the crap out of the other cars; always a plus....
