I think you have other problems...This car should not break the wheels loose for more then 2 seconds from a roll no matter what tires you have unless you are FI. If your car is close to stock you probably just burnt clutch. You should never be able to downshift to 2nd and do a "mini-burnout". Especially on 18s.

This is totally correct. Please get the appropriate rear tires (relative to the front) before your next post is 'I lost in a turn and went into the guardrail". We've had a lot of these lately. Drive safe.

 

get rid of the crappy tires. my s02's are almost bald and slamming second today i heard a CHIRP for the first time .... EVAR!!

 

Are you rev matching when you downshift?
If you don't rev match and you throw it down while cornering, be prepared to countersteer its close to doing a technique called shift lock that induces the rears to slip on this type of scenario. I recently installed Falken Ziex ZE 512 and I don't think I can make it slip if downshifted correctly with rev matching. It does slip when doing a shift lock, "not really healthy for the car" but I do it here and thereon purpose to get sideways.

 

i know the stock S02 tires have good grips and all but i have heard countless of stories where people accidentally floor it and spin the car in rain/snow...beside being dangerous, it's just down right not economical owning a S02 tires simply because it only last 10000-12000 if you're lucky...The falken ZIEX 512 rated at 35000 miles and looks like i'm getting that kind of milage too...at 6000 miles the tires looks like brand new !!! that's 300% thread. Plus the ZIEX is all season tires and have VERY good grip in winter/rain weather...I guess getting these tires would definitely save me over $1000 worth of tires in the long run. (since i run 18")

 

How do you accidentally "floor it"? And yes, S-02s are not economical. they're a performance tire and there is nothing better for ultimate dry traction short of a race tire. I don't mean to be rude here, but ifd you want grip, you'll have to give up tire life.
