Default S2k on Blizzaks or RX300 on All Seasons...

It is supposed to snow about 6" tonight and I have to be out. Which car should I drive, my s2000 with Blizzak WS-50's, or my AWD RX300 with half-worn all-seasons? This is my first winter with my Blizzaks and we haven't had any real snow accumulation yet, so I am new at this...

6" is a good amount of snow.

If you had snow tires on the RX that'd be the way to go, but all seasons are not great in the snow. I'd say either one is OK, but I would go with the RX since it's AWD.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to get snow tires on the RX for the next big storm.

I agree, but I did not know I was going to have the RX when I bought the Blizzaks for my S. I got the car from work because one of the managers just got a new company car, so I got his old one (a 2003) until his lease is up. I only have it for a few months, so I don't want to buy new tires for it.

I'd would definitely go with the company car. Plus 6" is a lot of snow. The RX has more ground clearance.

The RX is front wheel drive, correct?

Weight over the wheels and the overall weight of the RX will help more in the snow. Plus your visibility will be greater.

RX is eithor AWD or FWD. We had the AWD version and I've driven in 3 feet of snow last year, when NJ had the state of emergency, and I had no problem getting around with the snow traction turned on. The car handled fine and in turns, if you started to slide, it was VERY predictible and easy to correct or just power slide through

Why do you even have to ask? Look at the possibilities: You hit something, someone hits you, sand and gravel sprayed all over your baby, salts and other chemicals attacking your baby, your own insurance deductible vs. the company's, 2 WD vs 4 WD, cost of tow if you go off the road and don't even hit anything..... The list is endless !

Because snow tires offer loads more traction than crappy all-season tires. Plus, I'm not very picky about the appearance of my S, so I don't really care about salt or dirt or mud getting all over it. I think it is a pretty valid question, and some of the people have affirmed my suspicion that the AWD in the RX would negate the effects of the cheap tires.

definitely the rx. not only for clearance and traction issues but if you do end up crashing for your own safety!
