Default Scratches on Chrome rims.

Newbie here. I just recently got 4 new chrome rims and had them mounted and balanced. I noticed these scratches on the inner barrel and not sure if it was from the manufacturer or the installer? It looks like it was sandpapered or something? Not sure what to do. Thanks for any advice.

Given how concentric they are it’s probably a by product of manufacturing; rotary forging or machining I imagine.

Not sure if I can return them. I think there is a 1 year warrenty for defects ect. Im just worried if I leave these scratches how they are that water will seep into into and slowly rust/peel

This is generally considered a “normal” part of manufacturing. Some manufacturers may choose to knock down the ridges smooth and some may just leave it to save cost. In some instances and types of products the machine marks are purposely left there as an aesthetic touch.

As far is to goes for you, I think as long as it passes the 5 foot eye ball tests for your tastes it should be fine. To a certain extent wheels are wear products and you should expect certain imperfections.

Thanks for you're input. Greatly appreciated. So if I leave it as be and keep up with cleaning it'll be alright? I was thinking about doing a layer of cermaic coating.

I can't imagine it should cause any problems w/ cleaning.

What I'm seeing is the normal ridges you see in a lot of wheels that is a normal part of the rough machining process, that they don't bother further smoothing in the barrel area as its not part of the display area of the wheel, and in one area of the wheel these ridges have been haphazardly removed in what looks like a hand tool means (sanding, grinding, etc).

My thoughts are maybe this was done as part of a factory balancing process? They spin the wheels, then grind down any heavy areas. The opposite of tire shop balance where weight is added at 180 degrees.

Doesn't seem like anything to worry about.

Have one more question for you guys. I think this is some type of clear coat but its like peeling and it feels kinda rough/bumpy. Wondering if this is a serious problem and will start peeling? Thanks again

It’s kind of hard to tell from the angle but you’re right it might be the plating coming off. It might be because of build quality but even the most expensive wheels are susceptible to damage from road conditions. My brand new T7s already have plenty of rock chips.
