Default Snow Tire Sizes

I want to put snow tires on my S2K (probably Dunlops) and am getting conflicting information about sizes. Some people are saying same size as stock tires but others say that in a snow tire you want all four tires to be the same size. Please advise

I seem to remember reading in the owners manual that snow tires should be stock sizes. And based on that, I bought Michelin Pilot Alpines in 205/55R16 and 225/50R16.

I think that the Dunlops (M2's) are a good choice. I just had a set mounted on my spare wheels last week at the Tire Rack and Jim recommended going with the "stock" sizes, 205/55R16 and 225/50R16. I have heard of people using the same size, front and rear, but with the power of our car, it just doesn't make any sense to do this. By using the 225/50R16 on the rear, you already giving up about 1/2" of tread width. I'm thinking of my typical winter weather mix. I'm not driving on snow for much of the winter, most is either dry or rain. Plus, if you give up the stagger, you will definitely be oversteering like crazy. Not good.

I hope that this helps,
Bob

Bob is correct. For this car I would recommend the OE size tires. The Dunlop Winter Sport M2 would be an excellent choice for the car in Chicago. You keep some of the performance of the car in the dry but gain the ice and snow traction that will be needed.

If I can help let me know.
Thank you
