Default Stay 16's OEM or Switch to 17's OEM

Im thinking about going 17's to replace my 16's. I do alot of out back driving on the weekends and plan to do alot of autocrossing. Would anyone recommend doing this for handling improvments? Or would my Stock 16's be good enough for autocorssing and drifting? I read that if u get Aftermarket 16's it need to be 245/45/16's and thats what i did based on S2KI members recomendations.

Heres my Tires that my homeboy hooked me up with for FREE!!!

245/45/16 compared to my old 225/55/16's

Will these Brand new wider tires hurt my performance?

The stock 16's are more than fine and are lighter.

245's are the right size in non-oem tires but I will tell you that the BEta 451's aren't that great. I have 225f/265r on my aftermarket rims and they don't grip anywhere near my stock wheel setup with the S02's. Since they were free you aren't out any money like me. The problem is that you are stuck with buying two fronts now because i wouldn't run Falkens out back and stock So2's in front.

It would depend on the tire and wheel you go to. If you keep the unsprung weight down and you go to a max perofrmance handling tire then the 17" would be a good way to go.
If not and the wheels and tires are a lot heavier you would loose performance.

My fronts are Falken FK-451 205/50/16's. I got Falken FK-451 225/55/16 on the rears right now. I got free 245/45/16's for rears and im planning to install them after i tear up the current ones. I did an hour outback run with one of the fellow S2K memebrs last weekend cruzing speeds up to 100 mph on a 1 lane twisty road course. No problems, stuck to the ground.

Your car already oversteers (tail happy). Just imagine if you put sticky tires in the front (so2) and harder compound less grippy tires in the back. You'll make it even worse.

Also, for autocrossing, you're going to be bumped out of the stock class if you go with 17's.

And like others have said, stick to the same tires on all four corners.

I think there is a typo. Your fronts should be 205/55-16 and rears should be 225/50-16

I think he was referring to the fact that the OP had the sidewall measurements reversed on the tires he owned, not saying that 225 was better than 245 on the rear.
