Default Sumitomos, which ones?

I am looking to buy a set of tires for my S2k. The car is a DD and although handling is important, so is tread life. I have been reading a lot of good things about the value of the Sumitomos. Most people seem to be buying the Sumitomo HTR III. Is that a better tire for the S2k than the Sumitomo HTR II ? I like the tread pattern better on the Sumitomo HTR II then the HTR IIIs. There is not much difference in price and both are rated pretty good. Which ones would be a better ? Why?

Thanks for any help.

New improved rubber compound on the III compared to the II.

I use Sumi HTR+ on my DD set. It's all season and I see a light snow here northern Nevada. I have a 2nd set of stock wheel for Summer and /or track day. Still on stock tires for now. I need to use them before I can get a set of sticky.

i had the sumitomo htr II and i didnt like them much. the sidewalls are very soft and have a rounded look vs a strong shoulder. as for the tread, its not good for rain

That's kinda like saying "he's the smartest kid with down syndrome" or "that's the fastest Geo available." You really didn't say anything with that statement. I understand that these tyres are the best ones that Sumitomo makes but how do they compare with tyres that are tried and true?? I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" which is why im so hesitant with this purchase. Don't mean to bust your chops here but I'm in need of new tyres ASAP and I've been wondering basically the same thing as the OP. I was pretty much sold on the Potenza RE760's but quite a number of people have been recommending the HTR zIII's.
