Default Taxes and Fees at tirerack.com

Why do I get charged a disposal fee when there is nothing for you to dispose of? I can see my installer charging a disposal fee. Also why do you charge taxes? This adds almost $50-$70 to an order. If I have to pay TAX and SHIPPING where is the advantage over a local shop. Is this a new policy? I have ordered tires from tirerack.com in the past and I don't remember it being this high. Maybe I just didn't pay attention?

Thanks

S2K_LA (i assume you're in Cali),

the tirerack has to charge taxes based on the laws of the state in which they conduct business......in this case Indiana.

you're not buying the goods in the state where YOU live.....you're buying them in Indiana (Point of Sale)...regardless of where they're being shipped to.

make sense??

sometimes, different states even have different sales tax percentages and taxability guidelines.

S2k_fever, why do you say that TKG's statements aren't true? Everything I've heard and seen says that it's true.

Woops... not in CA also meant no in California. I guess now you know why I am asking the question. I keep forgetting about this handle I made when I first got the S2K. I wanted to let people know that there was an owner in LA (Louisiana). After the board got popular people started thinking LA meant L.a. I forgot that everyone who uses the Internet lives in California )

I think tirerack may have been having a web problem cause I tried to go back to the site and it wouldn't load. I am going to try in the morning.

Now you guys know why my jaw dropped when I saw those fees.

Later...

S2K_LA -

I ordered some tires from there, and Jim stated they'd be drop shipped from Louisiana. Now, from what I know, where the money takes the transaction, that's what is taxed. So you would be correct in stating you shouldnt' be taxed. But I'm not 100% sure because they were probably SHIPPED FROM LOUISIANA and that's why you are taxed that way. They have warehouses/suppliers in lots of states, and that's how they work.

Lets take for exmple - California. I work with several vendors over there, and only one of them charges me CA sales tax if I drop ship to a customer residing in CA. Its weird, but that's just how they work.

Schatten... that makes sense. I never figured they would be shipping from LA. I am in the process of looking at past invoices to see if I got charged those fees etc...
