Default Tech Question for Jim @Tirerack

Hello Jim et al.

My current set up:

Blitz Type 01's
-17x8 +45 (front)
-17x9 +45 (rear)

Yokohama AVS ES100 Tires
-215/45/17
-245/40/17

What i am thinking of buying: RE050'a

F: 225/45 R17
R: 255/40 R17

Will this set up work on the offset and size rims i have now? I am not lowered.

Please let me know asap.

Hey Josh, I'm no expert, but if you're not rubbing with your current set up, you need to look at two things before changing your tire:

-Tread width (how wide the tire actually measures at the tread)
-Overall diameter

Obviously, if both of those are much larger than your current set up, you may have rubbing problems. The tirerack has really in-depth specs on each tire, so you're able to see that your current set up is the following:

Tread width/Overall diameter

Yokohama AVS ES100

F: 8.3"/24.6"
R: 9.4"/24.7"

With the RE050A's, you'd be looking at:

F: 8.3"/25"
R: 9.1"/25"

SO... that being said, it looks like the width will not be an issue, but they will have a slightly larger diameter. However, it's so minimal of a diameter change that I doubt you would have issues.

Just my uneducated opinion. Jim, please correct me if I'm wrong. Do we need to take section width into account as well?

I would say that with the offsets you are running with the width of the wheels the wider tires are going to be a problem. I can see rubbing in the future. They are a good price on the RE050A but be prepared to roll the fender lip and or running more negative camber.
If I can help let me know.
