Default Terminology Help/Tire installers

I'll be needing new rears soon (8000 mi) and looking around for an installer. Following up on an earlier post, Jim @ Tire Rack advised the use of touchless mounting equipment. Well my problem is I hear silence when I ask if they use this type of equipment and all have said NO but they use some nylon part that does not damage wheels. Am I asking the wrong question? What should I be asking the installers?

Most of the equipment will come in from the back side of the whell and not touch the face of the wheel.
