tire flop

Default tire flop

my front are wearing on the inside. so i'm going to have them flopped over. why do my tire people balk at doing this? does anyone know if this is a bad idea?

"Flipping" the tires should be done if the wear on the thin side isn't too thin. You should do the flip such that by the time the good side wears thin, the whole tread will have worn to the same point where the tire needs to be replaced. Your tire people may be reluctant to do it if the thin side is so thin that it doesn't warrant doing it. However, it's your money and if they won't do it, find another shop that will.

Then I see no problem with doing this. Can you be sure the tire shop actually understands what you are trying to accomplish? The tire shop I went to originally just took one tire off of one rim and mounted it onto the other rim. They had no understanding of the instructions I gave them. They basically just switched rims for me. From their perspective, what I wanted was just plain goofy.
