Default Tire Help

Alright, so sooner or later I plan on participating in autocrossing within the A Stock class. I want to get a good set of tires for the track because I do not want to destroy might street tires. I only want to use one set of rims so whenever I go to an event I'm hoping that it won't be too much of a hassle to get my rims into my track tires before getting to the event. Do any of you guys out there use the same rims for street and track tires? If so what tires do you recommend?

Thanks.

I do, I use Dunlop Z1 but I hear the new Dunlop Z1 Star-spec is where it's really at!

Wow. Didn't think I would get a response, especailly this quickly. So it isn't that much of a deal to you to switch the rims into your racing tires?

well, right now im using z1 for street and track. Sooner or later I'll switch to R-compound for track and less aggressive tires for street. I have my own tool to switch rims quickly so it's not a headache at all switching rims.

Oh sweet. Where can I get one of the tools? Or are they one of the big machines?

Wait, are we talking about switching tires on the same rim? If so, yes that's a hassle and not worth paying $60 everytime just to put race tires on and another $60 to take them off. I'm running on one set of rim because im poor. If I was in a better financial situation, I would have 2 set of rims for sure. 1 for track and 1 for streets.

Haha. That is what I thought. Just checked out the Dunlop Z1 Star Spec and they are pretty expensive they. They look good though. I guess the only way to AutoX and keep my car as a daily driver will have to be to get 2 sets of rims and tires... That is a lot of money.

Nah, get the Star-spec. They're made mostly for Auto-X anyways with the ability to heat up quickly. Like I said, I use the Z1 for daily (yes, even in the rain) and for track! Also, the z1 is cheap compared to other tires like the a048 and re01r. If you're looking for cheaper tires that is sticky but grease up quicky, get the Falken Azenis RT-615. They're only $10-$30 cheaper though so you're not saving much

I was on Discount Tire Direct and they say the Z1 isn't too great in rain conditions. I live in Georgia and we can get some heavy rain at times. I need an all season tire that still has good performance on the track while haveing a good treadwear.

jasonn is steering you right. The star spec *is* a rain tire compared to most decent ax tires and it is REALLY cheap.
