Tire Question for Jim:
This question has been "skirted around" a bit on this board, but I don't think ever directly asked and answered. (If so, I applolgize.)
For rather normal, non-competition driving, I think most will agree that the OEM SO2's are great, but short lived. Some of the posts on the SO3's sound about the same.
So for this type of normal driving, where the owner still wants great non-competition performance, what do you think is the best replacement tire for the S2k?
Thanks,
Richard

Just to add to the mix, as I will be needing new tires within a month, add in the Yokohama EVS100. If someone is not tracking there car or pushing it to the limits would you recommend it over the S03 based on cost and what it is being used for. All the other posts on it are positive. I also have the additional concern that my replacement tires handle well in the rain/wet conditions. Jim any insight you or others can provide on this would be appreciated. I, like Richard, want to get more than 8-12K miles out of a set of tires. Know this is a tough question to answer- a lot of potential variables.
Thanks as well,
Ken

I don't think there is a tire that gives (great handling) that is going to last a lot longer on this car. Like I have said before if you are looking for a long wearing tire, sell the car because it is not going to happen. Even if the tire last 25% longer it only buys you maybe 3,000 more miles.
Like I have told Richard before the way to get a little longer tread life is to adjust the toe in on the car. With the alignment the way it is you have to do this to get any longer tread life.
If you a real aggressive driver the ES100 would be a good choice. I wouldn't have anything else that would be a better value.

Jim,
Thanks, and I agree don't buy a sports car and expect 80K miles out of a set of tires. I am just looking at the close to $300 in savings on the EVS100's versus the S03's and trying to determine if it is worth it for my type of driving. Either way I go you'll have my business.

An interesting thing is that the service manager at my local Honda dealership also recommended the Yoko EVS 100, and recommended Tirerack as the source. Even though that dealership sells tires to fit my s2k also, they are of the OEM type and the service manager said there was no way he could beat Tirerack's prices if I wanted the S02's or anything else. The service manager did say they would do the complete installation for $14 per wheel for tires from Tirerack, which didn't sound too bad to me. Have I found an honest Honda dealership service manager or what?
Thanks,
Richard
