Default Tire sizes

If I remember correctly the OE sizes for an AP2 are:

F: 215.45.17
R. 245.40.17

Would I be able to put a 45 sidewall on the rear and a 40 sidewall on the front?
That would give me more flexibility as far as choices and price. Would it affect the handling? That is my main concern. Thanks so much.

If you go with those sizes, you'll end up with fronts being about an inch shorter than stock, and rears about an inch taller than stock. Not the best idea in the world...

Consider that it's not a "45" sidewall or a "40" sidewall. Those numbers are sidewall height as a percentage of width. So a 215/45 has 215*.45 = 97mm sidewalls, and a 245/40 has 245*.40 = 98mm sidewalls (nominally). So the stock tires have the same (close enough) diameter.
Whereas a 215/40 has an 86mm sidewall, and a 245/45 has a 110mm sidewall.

On stock wheels, here are your most reasonable size options:
215/45-17 F, 245/40-17 R (stock AP2)
215/45-17 F, 255/40-17 R (stock CR)
225/45-17 F, 255/40-17 R (alternate wider-fronts fitment)

215/40 fronts with 245/45 rears = not the best idea...
