Default Tire question

So reading around the forums, something suddenly dawned on me. I think my tire size is wrong.

In the front im running 225/45r17
In the rear im running 245/40r17

Dizerra starspecs on a 17x7 wheel.

Why would i run 45 in the front and 40 in the rear? These are the numbers tirerack gave me

45 and 40 are the aspect ratio, the tire's sidewall height represented as a percentage of section width. 225/45 has a sidewall height of 0.45*225 = 101.25mm. 245/40 sidewall height = 245*.40 = 98mm. So your front tires are about 6.5mm bigger in diameter than the rears. Not a big deal as far as function goes, but IMO 225/45-17 fronts with 245/40-17 rears doesn't look quite right (fronts look noticeably bigger than rears).

Your sizes aren't necessarily "wrong", but for me the preferred size options on AP2 wheels would be:
215/45-17 front, 245/40-17 rear (stock AP2 sizes)
215/45-17 front, 255/40-17 rear (stock CR sizes)
225/45-17 front, 255/40-17 rear

hmm. I see. So a tire with 215/45 will have a smaller diamater than a tire with 225/45, as well as a smaller footprint.

I'm also getting some slight rubbing and looking at other pictures of s2k's, i notice that their tires arent as flush with the fender as mine are. Some of the slammed s2k's look like the tires ride within the inner lip of the fender.

Fair enough. Good info. When I get some decent wheels, I'll be sure to go with a 215'ish front.
