I couldn't wait to get these wheels off my car.

Previous owner fit them for what reasons I still can't figure out. They don't even look good to me. If you can find my old "for sale" ad the tire size that fit under my stock wheel wells may be included.

This is $1200+ a set of 4? Plus $800 for the tires? We all have different priorities on what to spend on what.

Those are RPF1 - completely different wheel. It looks like convex (width 8.5" or less) front and rear which I agree is not a good look.

Bottom line - 225/45, 255/40 is the best fitment for these wheels. If you want wider tires, get wider wheels.

The wheels im looking at are 8" wide and 9" wide... ive had 275's on a 9.5" wide wheel before with no bulge, so i know it'll fit on a 9". Im not worried as far as tire fitting on a wheel, im worried about those size tires on a s2kwith those offsets

The problem with a 275/40 is it’s a donut, almost 26" tall, which significantly changes your gear ratio, adds more sidewall so more flex and more vague hanging feel. If you have a boosted car that all you care about is improving strait line traction and have the added power to justify pulling a taller final drive/gear then to each there own, but you don’t have to make those sacrifices to have a wider footprint about a 255. If you do care about maintaining the best all around handing and traction performance, then up the wheels to an 18" so you can get the appropriate overall tire diameter and width ie 285/295/30 on a 10"-11" rim width. You can run a 18" with a 285/30 on a 10" -10.5" rim with a +70-75 offset in the rear and not need to roll fenders. You can run a 8.5-9" +60 with a 245/35 up front to match. Both of these rim/tire widths have dramatically improved the performance of the car without any drawbacks except for some minor weight increase, depending on wheel choice. A 275/40/17 tire is no lightweight though let me tell you, at the end of the day its pretty much a wash.

With the exception of some custom/race applications such as what I run, the typical best overall performance set up to run on this car is a 255 on a 17" and utilizing that 255 on a 10" works to get the best out of that tire width. If you want to go with a wider tire then up to a 18" and a wider coinciding rim

Thanks! Great info. And yes the setup will be on a turbo s2k. Street car/dd/occassional drag racing at local track. .. can I run the 18" setup and lower the car any with no rolling? Say... 1"drop on legit springs with legit struts.. I have no problem with running an 18. Just wanting the most rubber outback width wise with no modification

Edit: ..ya cant find any rims with that offset. Lol

I run 275/40/17 on the back and I love them. Significantly much more grip compared to a 255/40/17. You can run a 275 on a 9 inch wide rim just fine. 275 have a rim range of 9-11. Yes it will bulge but no more than a 255 on a stock 8.5" rim.

So the 275/40's do fit. Did u have to roll the fenders or modify anything? What are ur wheels specs including offset. And can u post pics so i can see them please!

Edit: so just looked up stock ap2 wheels. 17x8.5 on 245/40's all around.... so on the wheels i posted at the top,im thinkin 255/40 up front and 275/40 out back....possible? And please keep in mind, this is a street car, only racing i'll do is occassional 1/4 mile track, and street racing... in mexico ofcourse. ; )

And chuck,i like the tire fitment in that pic, not the wheels, but the tire sizing looks good 2 me
I run 275/40/17 nitto nt05 on 17x10.5+67 rims with stock non rolled fenders.

What wheels are those? And what is your front wheel/tire setup? Any pics? And are you lowered or cambered in? I bet your car hooks pretty good!!!

After more extensive research,lol... ive learned that 265/40/17's will indeed for sure fit with no rolling in rear. With the +60 offset for the pf01's. Overall dia. Is 25.3, a 235/45/17 has matching overall dia. So i would like those up front, the +50 offset on the pf01's though makeme think they may not work, itd be REAL close though

I was actually wondering about this and using NT05s (275s vs 255s) for sizing data the FD difference is ~0.09. Which when compared to people throwing 4.44s or 4.77s isn't that drastic a change. It only ends up being a difference of 1-3 mph in each gear.

If you want the best street tires for any usage, you aren't going to find them available bigger than 255 anyway. RS3, ZII, AD08, RE11A are much better tires than the NT05. I'd be looking at 225/45 or 235/40 fronts to go with 255/40 rears. Maybe 245/40 fronts with 275 rears.

what about running 225/45 and 255/40 on stock ap2 wheels? is there alot of vague steering feeling with that setup?

It really depends on the tire and the driver. Not all 255s are created equal (or any other specific tire for that matter).
I refer to Psychoazn's thread where he compares a bunch of Extreme class tires:
https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/839...-z2-vs-rivals/

I run 225/255 (RS3, Rival and Z2) on my stock CR/AP2v3/ap2v1 wheels and I feel fine with this setup on the track. I would lose the front on 215/255 so that small increase on the 225 really did help.
