tires
hey kids
I've had my 2004 for about 36k, when I bought it, it had Sumitomo tires slightly worn so they probably have 45k on them. ride has degraded quite a bit. time for a new set.
I've seen recommendations for Yokohama, Dunlop, Michelin, etc etc. since I am a relatively new S2K owner, I need good advice on best options and prices.
live in SC so I drive mostly on dry roads, roads are of fair quality since we are in suburbia/rural , mostly secondary road and highway driving, mostly flat terrain. I like to hug the corners and go fast. but also want something that will last a long time to keep on a budget.
suggestions on tires...and...maybe a good shop to get them done at in Columbia SC area?
thanks

There's no tire that will last 45k miles and offer excellent traction, but I wouldn't expect an extreme performance tire to last more than 15,000-20,000 miles, if not less depending on usage.
Michelin Pilot Super Sports will last a little longer than an extreme performance tire, with a little less grip, but still overall a very good, and fairly grippy, but pricey tire. (Should run ~$775-850/ set *installed/balanced* if ordering yourself through tirerack and having a tire rack certified shop do the installation). Michelin tends to offer rebates throughout the year, and up until the end of this month there is a $70 mail in promotion on them.
Go to tire rack, and check the test reviews in any of the performance categories you are considering, in addition to survey reviews and you may discover strengths/weaknesses of each tire you are looking at.
