Default Tires?

I bought my '01 with 205/55/16's up front, and 225/50/16's outback. They are Pilot Sport's and I will need some new tires for Spring. (I know, isn't this a little soon? But I am in College, so a lot of saving will be necessary.) I know there was a thread on here somewhere that mentioned the correct rear tire size would be a 245/50/16.

What would be the best sized tire for the rear considering I am more into straight line racing then anything else, could a 255 or a 265 tire fit in the rear without rolling the fender's or doing any other modification's? What is the biggest sized tire you can fit on the rear, keep in mind I am using the OEM wheel's. Also, if I upgrade the rear to a larger size, would it be best to go a little wider upfront as well, or just leave the 205's on up front? Maybe I should put a 225 up front?

Thanks, and sorry for wasting your time, haha.
-Matt.

Read the wheel and tire FAQs - all the info you need is in there.

I was thinking about doing the 245's in the rear, since my Dad has those on his Z-28, so I got an idea of what it would look like. But with a meaty 255, I think I'd stand a better chance from a dig.

How wide are the OEM wheel's? A 255 tire seem's mighty big for an OEM wheel.

EDIT: Thank's buddy.

Look at the specifications for the tire that you want to use. Some of the tires larger than 245 might be tall enough to affect your gearing.

Dont let anyone feed you that crap about a stated size being the same in all tires. Tires of the same stated size will vary in dimensions from one line of tire to another. Extreme example - just compare the Hoosier A3SO5 to a Hankook Ventus H101.

Moving to Wheels & Tires forum, even though the question has pretty much been answered already.
