Default Tires rubbing...

So I have stock suspension, stock springs, spc ball joints with -2.5 camber up front, 255 RS3s with 17x9 +63 and I had to roll my fenders a to keep them from rubbing the fender liner which has now resolved. The problem now is that the passenger side is rubbing on the control arm but the drivers side doesn't? Any thoughts? The car has 34k miles and has never been in an accident.

I'd say manufacturing tolerance. Lots of stackup tolerance between subframe, control arms, steering rack, dimensions of control arms, etc. etc. You can get those steering stopper things; they are collars that slide over the tie rods and they prevent you from turning the steering too much as the collar hits the steering rack.

Someone made a thread about it. I think they are Ford parts?

I don't understand why you have such aggressive camber up front if you are on stock suspension. Those wheels should fit close without issues in front. I think the camber is your issue with the stock ride height. Also your tires are 255/40/17's right? You don't have a taller sidewall for some reason?

Best way to fix rubbing on the inside is a 3mm spacer.

- Not sure how you were rubbing the fender. I had 255s on x9 +63 and didn't rub at all on stock.

It's a combination of manufacturing tolerances, and alignment, either your camber or your caster may bot be perfectly even.

it could be the SPC ball joints. If I'm not mistaken, they replace the upper ball joint and pull the spindle inward to get more camber. that could be causing your rubbing issue. Some of the other ball joints like J's and Hardrace push the bottom of the spindle outward to get more camber and a tad bit extra clearance from the control arms.

You are rubbing against the lower spring perch on the OEM strut. It's basically some manufacture tolerance stack ups as well as when you're sitting in the car, the alignment changes very slightly. It's what happens when you run the +63 offset. Has nothing to do with tire size. Also, the SPC balljoints make the problem worse as it pulls the wheel inboard a little more. The J's/Spoon/Hardrace pushes the lower portion of the wheel outboard to gain camber. This keeps the inner portion of the wheel clearance from the lower spring perch, however, you will still rub anyways...just less.

Optimal alignment for a track? Just my guess

Id take a look at your caster first. My guess is that you have more caster on that side of the car than the other.

Run a 3mm spacer up front. It'll solve the rubbing on the inside under full lock.
