Default TPMS

Do the tires have to be removed from the wheel to gain access to removing the TPMS sensors?
Also, if I get aftermarket wheels and don't put the TPMS sensors in them (or if they won't fit), then will there be a problem other than the TPMS light coming on in the dash? (I've heard that the VSA can't be disengaged, but not sure if that is true)
Last, is there a way to get the light off in the dash (pull the fuse?)?

Thanks!

Disabling or tampering with an OEM-installed TPMS system, including the indicator light, is just like removing a catalytic converter, air bags or seat belts

Yes, the TPMS is on the 'inside' of the rim, so the tire needs to be removed.

If you run rims/tires without TPMS, then you'll only have the TPMS light to deal with. When I swap wheels, sometimes it comes on within a 1/4 mile of driving, other times it takes ~50 miles.

However, as soon as the rims with TPMS go back on, the light disappears on startup.

THank you appreciate it!
Have you tried removing the fuse to get the light to go off when you aren't running the TPMS sensors?

Regarding TPMS, Do OEM TPMS sensors fit into aftermarket rims. I have a set of CE28N's and wondered if I can just use the TPMS from my stock rims.

I think it depends on the wheel brand, some take the TPMS sensors and some don't. I believe I've seen that most Volks do not though...

The sensors do not always fit every aftremarket wheel. We check to make sure everything we sell does accept the sensors.

No, I havn't.

I do have a service manual, so I'll check to see if that fuse does ONLY the TPMS light.

I generally ignore it, as it isn't anything really serious. (FWIW, I do check my tire pressures myself, as TPMS generally won't trigger unless your tire pressures drop under 28 PSI or so... which is already way too low)

Bringing this thread back!
Just put aftermarket rims/tires on last week w/ NO TPMS sensors, and my light went off w/in 15 miles.
Last night, I pulled the fuse designated for the TPMS system (interior fuse box under the driver's side dash--7.5amp fuse), and the TPMS warning light is still on in the dash! Bummer!
Anyone else try this and can confirm that you got the same result?
