Default Want Wider Thread Patches?

spent the last two days going through the old topics so I am familar with the Lingos. I never got the answer I was after so I am going to make a thread here to ask it directly. I am almost ready to pull the trigger and order a set of RE050 A PP for the Rear (245/40R17 ).

I have a 2007 S2000 with stock tires.

I use it for daily driving and occasional spirted drive. I do drive in the rain and want good control in the rain.

Will I have the same thread with for the same given tire spec (ie rear 245/40R17) if I go RE050 vs RE050 A PP?

I heard SOOO many threads about people wanting to go wider (ie 255/40R17)! Is that because it's cheaper (currently is at Tire Rack)? Or is there any improvement? What advantages/disadvantages are there? (this is so uncleared from all the reading I've done).

Thanks,
David

Hrm, I think I answered my own questions by looking at the specs on tirerack.com

the 245/40R17 RE050 specs are:
Section Width: 9.6"
Thread Width: 9"

The 245/40R17 RE050A PP specs are:
Section Width: 9.8"
Thread Width: 8.7"

Hrm, are the RE050 A PP much of an improvement? Would it make more sense just to get the stock size, stock tire (RE050 245/40R17?)

Thanks,
David

So the question now is, what disadvantage/advantage will the slightly wider thread width of the RE050APP have on the car?

And, why would someone go all the way and get some super wide as the 255/40R17?

Thanks,
David

The 255/40R17 work well in the RE050A Pole Position be cause the front tires are wider than the OE tires.

I see, so tire size would you recommend for the fronts if I get 255/40R17 for the rears?

By the way, the deal that expires on May10, is it valid if I get a pair of front and a pair of rears?

Thanks,
David

^ cool! Thanks.

So, it all comes down to: "What's the advantage of having a wider thread patch?"
