Are the A tires softer and wear faster? Will the R tires work for the rare autocross I attend?

Autocross tires need grip sooner (when colder) but could get greasy when hot (you'll see people spraying water on hot tires). Road race tires are more slippery before they warm up but don't get as greasy when at "operating temp"
