Why the difference in tire height? front and back
Im getting some 18s soon. was going to run 35series up front and 30 series out back to keep with the standard. After thinking about this for a while, i think it would annoy me after a while, having different sizes front and back as apposed to 30 series all around
any reason for this difference? are most of u guys running 5 higher up front? or the same all around?
thanks

The number you are referring to is a percentage of the width of the tire. If you have 30% of 255 and 30% of 225, you'll have one tire shorter than the other. To compensate for this (and keep the diameter the same for safety reasons) you get a higher percentage on the narrower tire.
Hope that explains it for you.

ah i see. i guess i never really payed attention to it back when i had all my non staggered cars.
so hypothetically,
a 245/35-18 would have nearly the same side wall height as a 285/30-18?

ill be purchasing some ccw lm20s soon. still debating the exact specs. i was hung up on the 35series fronts, but now i understand that. now im just worried about too much tire stretch.
9" width in the front with 10.5" in the rear to have a nice fit with those tires. You could go wider but you'll have some stretching going on. Just mho though. Others with more know how on wider wheels should chime in. (I'm only on 7.5 fronts and 8.5 rears)
245/35 and 285/30 would give you about the same height.
245/35 = 3.37 in or 85.598 mm
285/30 = 3.36 in or 85.344 mm
I have 8 in the front with 225 and 9.5in the rear with 255... almost no stretch at all.
