Will mismatched front / rear tires produce dangerous oversteer
Jim (and anyone else)-
I just bought a 2001 S2K from a dealer with OEM rims but a terrible tire setup. On the front, I've got Potenza RE92's; on the rear I've got Dunlop SP Sport FM901's.
The Dunlops aren't too bad, but the RE92's are awful! Limited traction and no feel for the road. I really feel like it's a sin to be wasting the potential of this car on these rocks. Please help me down the road to salvation!
I've been eyeing a set of S-03's for the front. I live in Virginia where it rains quite a bit, so wet handling and resistance to hydroplaning are as important as dry handling. Seems like Eagle F1-GS D3's would be good, too. Thoughts on which is the better tire?
My main question is this: if I put either of these on the front, am I setting myself up for a dangerous amount of oversteer, given that I'll have equivalent to OEM traction in the front, with a loss of traction in the back?
In other words, do I get new front tires now, or do I wait until the rears are worn out and replace the whole set? Understand that I only drive about 10K miles a year and all four tires are new.
Thanks!

I agree you have a very bad set up on the car. In an emergency situation the car will be difficult to control. The S03 on the OE wheels is a much better set up. The GSD3 ends up being much narrower tire on the rear.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you

What about S03's on the front with the FM901's on the back?
Is this a logical step forward (toward an eventual all S03 setup), or am I actually making the car harder to control by putting stickier tires up front?
