Winter Tire help!

Default Winter Tire help!

Started snowing up in the mountains of Colorado today, and the high temp is 54 degrees, so its that time of year again! This will be my first winter with the S2K so I am kind of lost with this winter tire thing.

I looked on Tire Rack, and they have Perelli Winter Sottozero Serie II that fit the stock rim size of an S2000, unfortunately I cannot order from the Tire Rack unless I have no other options, and I've also never really heard anything about those tires, and was really looking for some Blizzak WS80s. So I called up my local Firestone and they said they dont have a single winter tire that fits the rear size of 225/50/16 what so ever. They suggested I go with a strong all-season tire to which I laughed inside, and hung up.

Now I turn to you guys. Please bare in mind this is all very new to me, so I am having a hard time grasping some of the info I am being given, but the car is totally stock, and I need winter tires. So I ask you this: "What are some phenominal winter tires, THAT WILL FIT STOCK 2002 S2000s?!"

Edit: Just called them to see if I could stretch some WS80s that are 205/55/16 to fit the rears and they didnt see an issue with that, so I will probably try that this season. Bad idea?

i went through many winters with my car with 16s and 17s.
i used dunlop wintersport 3d and hankook icebears on the 16s.
the dunlops were much better snow traction than the hankooks.

Why cant you order from tire rack unless you have no other option??

Because I am putting them on a Firestone credit card unless Tire Rack offers financing (which they dont)

If it were me I'd see if a 205/60-16 would fit. It's not like your going to track the car in the winter and these tires are only around 8/10" taller than a 225/50-16 tire. That will lift your car just about 4/10", thats not much but it could save your front bumper or at least give you a little more room to run over snow and ice clumps.
I run 235/45-17(f) and 245/45-17(r) on my '06 and I cant tell you how many times I ran right over something(and didn't hit it) and the guy behind me had to dodge it.

Don't know if the winterforce is a good winter tire or not but they don't cost much.

For the best winter traction the 205/55R16 will give the best snow traction. They do fit both front and rear wheels no problem.

Any recs for a rear snow tire for an AP2 ?

I still have a pair of snows (OEM size) for the front, but the rears are done, and there is no oem size available like their used to be. Booo

You can go with a 205/50R17 front and a 225/45R17 rear. There are a lot of options in the two sizes.

Though i am not enamored with them as they are not as good as a full snow, i already have a front snow LM60 with a season or two left on it @ 215/45R17 would a rear @ 235/45R17 work better then a 225/45R17. Im thinking the WS80...

I've been running 205/60-16 and 225/55-16 Dunlop WinterSport 3D for the past couple of seasons. Occasional minor rubbing of the fender liners, but worth it for the additional ground clearance! S2k is fun in the snow
