winter tires

I went with Tirerack's Sport 16's and Blizzak WS-50's and drove them in the snow for the first time today. I made it successfully down a steep icy hill in my neighborhood with minimal slipping. The very next car--a new Subaru Forester--slid off the road, went over a stone wall, and basically ruined his front end. Had to be towed out.
I would have gone with the 22's but we have really steep hills here and I felt like I needed a more aggressive tire. I went into a snowy and icy parking lot today and had to really push it to slide. So far I am really happy.
By the way, the 16's are a treat to drive after the 17's. Much smoother and quiter ride. Of course I can't wait to get the 17's and summer tires back on!

dudes just remember that only the first 50% of WS50 tread has the silica winter rubber, the rest is regular allseason stuff.. so if the winter traction goes to $hit after 2 seasons you'll know why!

i went with the ws-50's as well. i figured id sacrifice some handling for the increased traction.
