yokohama a048 VS 595rs-R FEDERAL
#12
Well, he's asking about the Yok A048 which is an R-compound. I had assumed that the 595RSR was too, but it looks like its niche is more in the "Extreme Performance" category.
He specifically stated that he's looking for tires "for track use", so we *do* know something about his intentions...
I don't know about the reports of RS3 being the equal of NT01. I've seen such reports, but also seen reports claiming the NT01 being from .5 to 2 seconds faster depending on the track/course, so
From Google search on NT01 vs RS3:
The Nitto NT01 is a better tire in every way. once a little warm, the NT01 will be about 1.5 sec faster on a 60 sec course. That's a combination we do quite often in testing on our 40 sec autocross course actually. Same car, driver, wheel, but NT01's vs RS3's.
I tried the RS3s on my stock S2000, and honestly they didn't seem any better or worse than the Star Specs I had been running (in fact wound up tracking on StarSpec fronts with RS3 rears at Mosport, no major difference in handling balance).
I have seen the threads here on S2ki where many say they are as fast as NT01s, but again, conflicting info from other sources.
I'm really really really hoping to get more grip from NT01s or RA1s, but in any case the RS3s don't come in the 275 size I want/need for rears on the FD so not an option for me...
But yeah, OP should definitely consider RS3, ZII, AD08R etc. if he needs to run on the street as well and/or if a few tenths to a second or so don't really matter. From what I've read I'd definitely pick any of those over the 595RSR.

Just so you know and since the OP seems to be from Greece.
Most of the tires you talk about like Nitto, ZII and RS3 is pretty much non available here in Europe, well at least as far as I know.

i got a set of staggered 235/40 and 255/40/17 RSR for 500 shipped.. z2s, re11s, etc are considerably more expensive. no one should be comparing this tire to others which are in different categories. pretty sure a lot of testing ive seen showed this tire performed better than the nt05 and azenis.. but id just recommend the OP do some more research to find what hes looking for in a tire!

I believe federal markets the rsr as a track tire if that case it deserves to be compared to the other tires I listed. I believe the kumho ecsta xs is comparably priced and indisuputably a better budget track tire in terms of performance and durability
If the 595 rsr were terrible in terms of wear but capable of a single golden lap all the time attack guys would be rocking these tires unfortunately they are not durable and they are not capable they are just cheap. Sooner or later the mounting balancing and shopping charges alone will make up for the difference of a more capable tire
