whatever its worth, im getting excellant dry grip on Toyo T1-R's... they dont feel any less grippy than OEM S0-2's (negligible if anything) and i was pleasantly surprised at their relative grip since i just came out of RA-1's...

for 17's and up.. azenis should be bang of the buck.
16's.. if you want daily driving/canyon, toyo t1r's since you can run the 205/245 setup.. i've tried es100's and found the sidewalls to be wayyy to soft. soft sidewall with our car's numb steering just makes it... number. jmo.
although i haven't tried the MX's, but it doesn't come in the proper size.

You can go with 225/45R17 fornt and 255/40R17 just fine on the factory wheels. As far as the specific tire goes it would depend on what you are looking for. For longer tread life and good handling I like the Bridgestone RE750. I used them on a 3 Series that I tracked for fun and for street and they were very good in both conditions.
