Feeling At A Loss
#11
As I said, to each his own. I've been around this merry go around. I'm in a different place. But, there is room in the world for different views, and either way, it is a great car. If, like me, your not driving on the track or autocross, none of it amounts to a hill of beans anyway. Do your own thing baby! I might suggest one thing though. Drive for a bit on the 16s with some decent tires. Then try the 17. See what you think based on your own experience instead of relying on what you read on the internets.

Will do. They arrive Wednesday and will likely have them mounted within a week. At least they ship extremely quickly. Hopefully they arrive in good condition and they are satisfactory. If not, I can return them and lose shipping only. May try and get a weight on them if I can, but from what I’ve read, they are identical to the OEM weight.
Agree that it’s diff strokes for diff folks. The primary reason for the change in the first place was to go with 17” wheels. I prefer the look and was hoping for a crisper feel given “less tire”. So I won’t be changing the 16’s to new tires since the new wheels are already ordered...unless they appear unsound. Definitely need new tires regardless. These tires are sketchy lol

I'm in pretty much the same situation as OP. My AP1 rear tires need to be replaced. The thread are actually okay, but age is not. The S02s have 2010 date code. Tires are no good after 6 or 7 years, from what I've read. So I've been debating whether to upgrade to 17s (very limited choices for factory staggered spec), or stick with OEM 16s and just get new tires. For 16 inch tires I was looking at Bridgestone RE71R when Costco had them at a good price. Unfortunately they don't carry those anymore. Recently been looking BFG G-gorce Sport Comp-2 (man, how did they come up with these names?), price is good, more than enough tire for me. Thread width (for looks) is supposed to be wider than normal 225s. Meanwhile I'm still keeping an eye out for OEM 17" wheels.

I have a set of the BFG GForce Sport Comp 2 AS s (?) on my oem 16 inch wheels. I use them during late fall and spring before the temps get warm. Shoulder seasons. I also use them to store the car. They do not flat out. I like them - a lot actually.
I also have a set of Conti Extremecontact Sports on very light forged BBS JDM 16 inch wheels for my main summer driving.
Also, a set of Bridgestone S04s on 17" OEM ap2 v3 wheels, (these tires are spent).
In the past I have used Volk ce28 17 inch s2k spec wheels with 225/255 Contis.
Of all those set ups, the light 16" forged wheels and Conti tires are my favorite. My least favorite is the 225/255 set up. I found the 225/255 set up very dull and heavy feeling. The inherent liveliness of the car isn't there. Again - I'm talking street.
