HELP Will my RPF1 crack?
Long story short, my passenger rear lower control arm disloged itself from the knuckle on a hard corner (ball joint stud had awful threads) and the lower control arm rubbed hard the inner part of barrel of my rpf1.
It doesnt look bent or anything, but I've been told that people dont powdercoat rpf1's because they crack due to removing material. My concern is, with this rub and some material being removed, could it crack on the track or in the canyons? I have a track day coming Saturday (9/1). Debeading a tire from a crack would really suck on the track

Pictures of the damage would be helpful. You could take it to a wheel repair place and have them inspect it. If it is really that much of a concern buying 1 wheel is worth the piece of mind and you can keep this one as a spare.

The load bearing part of the wheel is at the face around the lug nuts and spokes and outer bead portion. If the scrape/damage is to the inner barrel I wouldn't think it would be too much of a concern. Maybe someone else disagrees? Pics always good though.

Powder coating doesn't cause wheels to crack from removing material, it can weaken aluminum wheels if the oven temperature is too hot.
In any case, an RPF1 is cheap. Replace it.

Get it welded if concerned,be cheep enuff

RPF1 is cast, don't try to weld it.

They weld up great. If they didn't all of mine would have failed years ago. All of mine have been cut down the barrel and had a 2" strip welded in to widen them. This has been done with the stock cast s2000 wheels too. Look up "custom wheel widening".

I guess we have different safety levels. He tracks the car and has damaged a ~$225 wheel that is known to be somewhat easy to bend. Replace the thing.

Id like to see the damage to the wheel in question. More then likely it can be repaired and for 1/3" price of replacement. Still $250 isnt the end of the world for a wheel if there is any question, i agree. Mine cost double that however due to the modification.

Mine gets tracked as well. The rears are 11.5" wide with 315's on them, so lots of lateral stresses. I was involved in a a road accident about a year ago to the front of the car and one of my widened front wheels taco'd pretty good from the impact, but the welds held 100% which is far more stresses then would see in any other environment. If anything the modification added overall strength/reinforcement to the barrel of the wheel.
