had these tires in the rear, 245/45/16, for a month. worthless tires for a sports car unless you use it only for commute. the money saved is definitely not worth it if you want good handling tires.

those tires are rock hard and do make alot of noise. But they do last a long time and work very well in the wet. Of course though, in no way comparable to S02s


Have you tried the new Kumho MX series? I hear much more postive comments about that tire.

The 712s, depending on what rating you get them at, are a very good tire for the price, of course it's not on par with the pilot sports and the potenza S02s, but you shouldn't have bought them thinking you were getting a tire just as good. Also, having different tires up front in the rear could attribute to your discomfort and dislike. The wet weather traction, to me, is the best trade off.

Now, the MX, is a tire I'm anxiously waiting for, well, to have it in our size.

What front tires did you have, and what conditions were you driving under?

I have 205 fronts and 245 rears, and I couldn't be happier. I have race tires for track events so ultimate performance isn't important to me. And they can be more fun on the street than the S02s. The limits are lower but they're not as abrupt, so I've become somewhat deft and power slides and drifting. In any case, I can still keep up with the OEM S02 equipped people on canyon carving runs. Plus the extra peace of mind from knowing I won't crash my car in the rain is really beneficial. Finally, the extra money I've saved makes it possible for me to buy more go-fast parts for my track days!

Nice....the so2 is and unforgiving tire. The kuhmo supra was testing in a magazine recently and its track times where slightly slower than the pilots but not much. For the price this tire can not be beat. Basically half the price of pilots!

i have them all around (mainly because of price and wet traction) and the car is much more predictable with respect to the rear end stepping out.

These tires are really affected by their temp and definatly need to warm up before you try to hit any corners.

No contest, if i was gonna auto-x or track the car, i would go back to my S02s in a minute, but for regular driving, 712s work for me.

I could not disagree more. The s02's handle great but the break point comes with out notice and once they break they break very hard....its like being on oil. I've had other rear drive vechicles and have had tires that warn you with a feel(michelin/ pirelli) when they are going to break and when they do break it is much more easy to control....for auto-x the s02's are great but on back forest twisty's
good dam those oaks trees can look real scary up close! I am going to give the kuhmo's a shot.

I run the MXs and in 225&255 17s I've got better overall grip than I had on my S02s, they weigh the same, have better breakaway characteristics, are fun to drift and are a lot less expensive than comparable rubber (Pilot Sports/KDW).
