The difference is only less than 1/3". It is the best size to go with other than the OE tire. You can't tell the difference in the height.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you

if someone goes with a 245 in the rear for a non OEM tire (245/45/16) does the tire stick out anymore than the original 225's?

reason im asking is my car is very low and I dont want to have rubbing problems. I need to make sure the tire will fit inside the wheelwell with no problems. I have the stock rims by the way

thanks

The 245/45R16 will not stick out or rub. Even if the car is lowered.

That's a great illustration of how the 'width' of a tire doesn't tell the whole story. There's also the 'tread width', and then you have to subtract off the grooves in the tread pattern.

The OEM SO-2 rears have extra wide tread width, and very small/few grooves.

Thanks for posting that!

A quote from the original post:

"If you are not running the OEM tires on the rear of the S2K, you should be running a 245/45/16 in the rear."

If you are supposed to use 245/45/16's on the rear, why does the tire rack recommend 225/50/16's regardless of the make or type of tire? Confusing.

Also, the rack lists two choices for the SO-2's, the Honda EOM and the Porsche OEM at about the same price. rating on the Honda oem's is WR- on the Porsche's it is ZR.

Are there compelling reasons to choose one over the other?

Thanks

Yes, the Porsche tire is 1/2" narrower contact patch than the OE Honda tire. That is why I recommend the 245/45R16 rear tire.
