This is for my 2003 with 16's.

What's the real difference and better tire?

Need to replace stock tires this week.

This is not a daily driver and the car is primarily used in the summer months so looking for best performance and quietest ride over cost and tire life.

The S02 is better in the dry and perfformance driving and the RE050A Pole Position is going to be better in the wet and last longer. The RE050 is also going to last longer and cost less.

If you're considering S02, consider the RE01R in 225/205.

I have 205/225 RE01R's (Tirerack) on my oem 16's and they're great for the things the OP's seeking. Not only do they have about as much sheer stick as you're going to get in a road tire at present, they ride a lot smoother and quieter than the S02's did. Doubt you'll find a more civilized leading edge performance tire. Seem to be wearing well too at 4K so far, and have handled very heavy rain without any hydroplaning issues. Definitely recommended.
