Yes. Actually one of the biggest corvette meets is held yearly in Effingham, IL.

They had over 15,000 corvettes show up last year.

Or are you looking for vette meets at the dragon?

As enthusiastic as S2000 owners are, Corvete fans are like x10 in intensity. x10 in organization. and x100 in quantity. The car has been around for 56 years!

One of the biggest, and most famous meets is Bloomington Gold. It used to be held in Bloomington, IL but is now held in St. Charles at Pheasant Run.

I am sure there are Dragon events with the Corvette guys, but I am not aware of them. I haven't really looked into it.

A LOT of meets revolve around the National Corvette Museum/Factory in Bowling Green, KY. There is a "Birthday Bash" in April every year. Corvette Forum Cruise-In. C5/C6 Fest, Z06 Fest, etc, etc.

Check out the Museum website for a schedule:

There is a big meet in Effingham too, but I am pretty sure BG is bigger.

how would you compare the vette to ur old s2k? it seems to me like the s2k is more of a unique rare car vs. the vette being more mainstream... what would you say?

As rare as the S2000 is/was, it's become reasonably common too. It has been in production since 2000, the C6 has only been in production since 2005.

I love that the S2000 is what it is. 9,000 RPM Redline, manual only, convertable only, lightweight (-ish) and fast. It's nimble and gives you a connected feeling to the car that is hard to replicate.

It also tends to be harsh to drive for long periods. It tends to "dart" a little over rough roads. It bucks due to the short wheelbase. (Drive down 355 if you doubt this.) The sound system is worthless, and it would be nice to have a little more power.

At first I was going to keep the S2000 and buy the C6. I used to have a C5Z06, when I still had the S2000. The more I thought about it though, the less sense that made. The C6 is faster, more comfortable, more capable. On paper the only compromise (besides cost) was in the convertable roof. However, the C6 has a removable roof panel.

What doesn't show up on paper is that the S2000 is fun to drive slowly. Go around a corner at 30MPH instead of 20 and it's fun. In the C6, it's not really like that. It's too flat, too easy to zip around a corner. You don't feel like you are pushing it unless you are REALLLLLLY pushing it. The limit is pretty high.

Of course, the C6 feels more comfortable at speed. Going fast is easier in the C6. It inspires more confidence. If you lose the rear end in an S2000, it's gone. IF you lose the rear in the C6, you should be able to catch it. So it inspires confidence in finding the limits.

The interior of the C6 is nicer. There are more bells and whistles. It's not as supportive for lateral G's, but it's MUCH nicer for long trips.

Torque does NOT suck. I have close to 200 more RWHP and almost 275 more ft-lbs of torque under my right foot. It's intoxicating.

Some things cost more. Maintence costs are a little higher, since the C6 specifies Mobil1. Tires cost more (run flats, PLUS 19" rears.) Aftermarket parts are more readily available, and generally cheaper.

I felt the S2000 was not moving in the direction I wanted. I liked most of the AP2 changes, but I would have liked to see more power, AND 9,000 RPMs. The Corvette has generally always moved forward in terms of power and handling. The C6 is no exception.

There were revisions to the C6 in 2008. They went from the LS2 motor to the LS3. The LS2 puts out a rated 400HP and the LS3 puts out a rated 430. The LS3 is a little under-rated and the LS2 is a little over rated. The difference is a little more than 30 HP. Additional changes in 2008 include a better steering rack, a stronger transmission with a better feel, new wheel design, and some additional options.

There are a TON of options for the 'vettes. Not all of them are ala carte, but between coupe, convertable, Z06. Auto/Manual. 3 different suspension packages, etc it can be a bit confusing. The good news is that you can, to a degree, tailor the car to what you want. Unlike an S2000 where the only option is color (well, the CR is an options too.)

see im at a point where i could pick up a used c6 for pretty cheap because of my new job. and i have considered replacing the s2k with a c6 but im scared i may regret it.

about 2 years ago i saw some young girl in her late teens driving a c6 that smelled pretty "cat-less" it was loud as an airplane and i just was in awe at that sound. i pulled up told her iliked her ride... she said she liked mine a lot though. i then asked what exhaust she had... she told me "woudnt you like to know" and so i asked does it have cats- she said NOPe. i think it was straight pipes.

and thus here comes my dileema. when i was buying my s2k 1yr old with only11k on it i was about to get aa 01 c5 with also ONLY 11k. but chose the s, but then i heard that c6 and i dont know if i made the right choice.

Its either keep this or c6 w/ cams headers and straight pipes.
But i do really like the s though and am scared ill regret a swap so I am stuck
