Default Help me pick a new DD

I think it may be time to replace my daily driver. It is a 2002 Yukon.
While I do really like it, a few untimely repair expenses have hurt a little recently. I am worried that something else might go wrong at a bad time. I need reliable transportation so I can get to work every day.

I am looking at used cars for no more than $15,000.
I would prefer an SUV or a crossover. I test drove a Buick Rendezvous, and was pleasantly surprised. I like the looks of the CX-7, but have not driven one yet.
It snows here so FWD, AWD or 4x4 is a must.

I would like the ability to carry at least 3 other adults with me comfortably. Enough cargo space for camping/biking gear or mild Home Depot runs is also a must.

I would also like (or have the ability to add) a trailer hitch for my bike rack.

A car is not out of the question, but it would need to be really nice. G35, TL, ect.

I would prefer 2006+ with either some remaining factory warranty, or a CPO warranty.

Thoughts?

I replied in the one in CT, but I think it might be a stretch getting an 06+ for $15k.

Take a look at the Ford Edge (I know it's a Ford) but we drove one a couple weeks ago and it wasn't bad at all. It's big on the inside and was comfy. I would avoid a sedan, most sedans here don't have a hitch option, even aftermarket.

You could also check out various Subie's, they are within the price range as well.

In the crossover segment, I'd look at a CRV or Forester - although the mY06+ and <$15k will limit you. Legacy's are nice too - especially the GT but again limited given your requisites.

And as a wacky choice which will be really hard to find - Volvo S60R.

Also looks like there's a 06 Acura RL on craigslist with 57k miles for $14,500.

Might not fit your 06+ criteria but something like this:

http://www.autohaus.net/3511.html

I love my A4, and now kinda wish I had bought an Avant instead of a Sedan. You will get the room similar to a small SUV and the lower center of gravity advantages of a car. I have an OEM removable, thule inspired, roof rack for mine for bikes and ski's and it is amazing (sell your hitch mounted one), the car designers were thoughtful enough even on the sedan to put appropriate mounting holes in the door frame that work amazing. The AWD, ESP systems are top-notch too.

Once I run my current A4 into the ground (whenever that might happen); I'm pretty sure an 6MT Avant will be on the top of my shopping list.

You, sir, have good taste.

My brother has had phenomenal luck with his B5 gen. A4 Avant (I think it is a 2000). It has the V6 and quattro, and having both driven and ridden in it for long trips, I can say it is incredibly comfortable. Plus, he has fit, among other things, a freakin' dishwasher in it.

I definitely think this would be a good option, but I do like the looks of the CX-7 myself. I wonder if a Mazdaspeed 3 would work for ya...

Not a lot of MS3's layin' around.

The CX-7 is a strong contender. I want to go drive one.
I am also going to look for a Forrester to drive (although there is a shortage of the turbo versions for sale in my range.)
I also want to check out the Nissan Rogue.

I still like the Rendezvous, but ONLY in black.

I saw several MS3s when I was looking at cars last May, but maybe they are a bit more than your range, or simply lacking in space. (which is understandable)

As for the Rendezvous, first off, it is one of the ugliest cars I see on the road today. Secondly, didn't you say "If I NEVER own a black car again, it would be too soon."

I have said that. But it's a DD, so I don't really care THAT much about keeping it clean. What I find ugly about the RDV is the rear wraparound glass. When the truck is black, it hides that element, and REALLY makes it look sharp.
