I have enough stuff for the whole house to have neat stuff on the walls.

But none of it framed. The lowest quote I've got on one of them is $300 :O

Yeah, don't pay to have it framed, it's a ripoff. I bought a mat cutter a few years back from Michaels and have been doing them myself for a while. They've got one for $40 that works well.

Yeah, I buy a frame and a mat and then cut the mat to the size of the picture. Frames are usually like $20-40 (depending on size) and then $5-10 for the mat. For an 8x10 pic I'll buy the next size up frame, then you end up with a 2" edge around the picture.

The only thing about framing is whether or not what you are framing is subject to damage / fading over time. A proper frame for such eliminates air from getting in so that it won't happen. re: old news paper clipping or "hey check out my cool gone with the wind poster from 193_" . You want that protected.

... kinda like King Tut's stuff over in Egypt. They're letting him rot out of pride. It's our stuff & we will do what we want. Well he's slowly rotting away because the exhibits are not sealed.

None of ours are exposed to sunlight, and they aren't Monet's so I'm not too concerned.
