the new IL law banning text messaging while driving does have an exclusion for GPS use:

Based on the law as it is written, if you were watching a movie on your phone its not illegal, however there is another law that has nothing to do with that law that does not allow video to be displayed for the driver on a dvd screen, so i'd imagine that would be a part of it, however if you get a good lawyer it will be removed for sure.

Ha I wish. In a construction zone. $200.50..

The state is broke. A friend who got a tinted windows ticket (2%) got it dropped so all he has is court fees. $380.00 . The guy in front of us got convicted of speeding 90 mph $175.00...

Welcome to 2010

Damn Andy, that sucks.

I would try to fight it, you weren't texting or watching a fixed mount dvd player which is what the law is about, I know it is splitting hairs, but it's worth a shot.

Yeah some of the fees they tack on now are ridiculous. Like if you miss a court date, then they charge you 10 dollars to mail you the sheet of paper that tells you when the next court date is. haha!

I hear you on the tickets Sam. I'm the same way. I've been more careful recently, but nothing is fool-proof. Some of my friends finally understand why I got a veteran plate, and that hasn't been 100% either.

I've only gotten three tickets. One for an accident after I got my license. The second after I got caught doing 67 in a 40 only 1 block from my house on my way home from work. Both of these were about 8-9 years ago. The third was a much more recent occurrence of me being stupid.

I don't know how people can drive the car and text at the same time. I've done it before in stop/go traffic and it seriously gets on my nerves. I can't do it. I cannot imagine trying to do it at speed. ...yet my friend can do a ton of stupid stuff in his car while steering with the knee.

The thought of a cop pulling you over for little more than checking to see if you're wearing your seatbelt seems a little odd. The amount of "paperwork" that needs to get done if they pull you over seems like it'd be more trouble than it's worth.

A cop pulling someone over for texting . . . how do they know that you were actually texting? Just because your head is down, doesn't necessarily mean you're texting. What if you're adjusting the radio? What if you're looking at something else for a brief moment?

It seems like texting while driving should have been lumped into what all the other crap like what I mentioned above does: Inattentive driving.

. . . I still can't figure out how people text while drive.
