I just got layed off- help
Hey guys...I just got layed off from my job due to the poor economy and also the fact that I was part time. Now, I am job-less and was wondering if you guys could help. I have 3 years of experience in a mechanical testing environment dealing with various metals(charpy, various forms of hardness testing, tensile and yield points, etc). I also have experience with treating of metals with different processes of heat treating, nitriding, and different forms of blasting. I worked with shop orders that detailed all necessary criteria . Quality control is a great area of my expertise. Plus much more...
The thing is though, I am currently going to NIU with a major of operations management and information systems, so I would only be able to work part time. With hours that would change possibly every semester. Can't work too early because of school, and not too late because of studying.
So... I would ideally be looking for something within the automotive industry. But shoot out whatever you have.
My last job's hours would go something like mon wed fri 3-7... netting me 16 hours... i dont really want much more than 20 hours, but i'm open to different ideas and jobs. I'm just trying to stay within my field

Check the general job websites, stay away from Craigslist.
Can you afford not getting a job in your field?
If you can, try broadening your spectrum to call centers and things along that line.
Best of luck, took me a month 1/2 to find a job.

Does your school have any possible job offerings, or other job-finding tools? I have a pretty boring non-mechanical engineering-related job on campus, but they work hours around my classes great and it puts enough in my pocket to survive.
You'd have to move to WI, but the palce I work for has a good heat treat department. Inspection is a bit of a hack-job the way our company goes about things.
If you're interested, shoot me a PM and I'll see if they have an opening and pass word about you.
We work with superalloys and aerospace-grade materials
