The Iceman Cometh
The 2007 Formula 1 season is at an end, and what an end it was!
For the first time in 27 years, three drivers were in contention for the championship going into the final race.
Masa started on the poll in his home Grand Prix. He cut off Fernando Alonzo and then battled with Kimi going into turn one. Masa got out in front of Kimi and then the Ferrari's pulled out an early gap. Alonzo made Hamilton blink, and Hamilton locked up his brakes, and went off-track. Hamilton pushed too hard to try to make up spots he didn't really need and may have dammaged some of his electronics. His car slowed and he lost about 30 secs and about 10 grid positions. He was able to battle his way forward, but finished in 8th place.
Alonzo was WELL off the pace set by the Ferraris. He was comfortable in 3rd place, but finished about 40 secs behind the Ferraris.
Masa pitted two laps earlier than SpeedTV expected, and Kimi was able to take the lead. This was EXACLTY the scenario Kimi needed to get the championship.
Kimi finished the season with 110 points, Hamilton and Alonzo both had 109 (Hamilton beat out Alonzo for 2nd in the Championship in the tie-breaker.)
This was the first time in 57 years, that the person third in the chapionship going into the final race, won the championship.
Congrats to Kimi and Ferrari for the drivers and the (tainted) contructors championships for 2007!

That was an amazing race. Definitely not what I expected. Congrats to Kimi - it's about time he won the championship. He definitely deserves to be world champion (at least once). Although, I think Massa could have won the race (and consequently Hamilton the championship). Very good race. Very good season. I guess life does go on in the post-schumi era.
