My boss loves the Japanese restaurant "katsu" on N. Lincoln Ave in Chicago.
Check out Sal & Carvao. Its the best steakhouse, IMO. Well, Brazillian steakhouse that is.

i was at Katsu again 2 wks ago. $70/pp omakase. i felt ripped off. and hungry afterwards. of course we did have $8 piece of chu-toro so ..
again, i'm going thru my list of current faves:
Mundial Cocina Mestiza. riding on a hot new wave of haute mexican. cheap, BYOB, awesome environment, open kitchen, great great food.

this place is TRULY hit-n-miss. fortunately, we had the prix-fixe pre-theatre menu and it was "off the chain". skip ALL things Asian infused, skip all sushi/sashimi. ask for the naan UNCUT and you'll get this effing basketball sized plate:

the 4 flavor sorbet is friggin OUT OF THIS WORLD
under the radar Japanese:
East (cocoro)
most "authentic" Japanese - izakaya style - restaurant in River North, and possibly 2nd most authentic in the downtown area.
