Even if Nico DNF's in Austin AND Hammy wins, he's still way behind in the championship. Basically, Nico has to finish outside points in BOTH of the last two races. And that's just unlikely, to say the least.

If he pulls a Prost and drives Hammy off track in Austin, he'd clinch the driver's championship (and royally piss of Merc.)

I don't see DRS or ERS going away. I don't mind DRS it does help with passing. But the heavy reliance on aero does make passing very difficult as getting close doesn't create the draft like it does in say NAStyCAR, instead it tends to wash out the front aero advantage, so you can't make the pass. Limits on the front wings would help. Wider tires would help. Basically, more mechanical grip, and less aero would make for a more exciting event to watch.

Well, there are four races left (USA, MEX, BRA, ABU), so he has a little bit of time.

Next year's cars are going to be 2-3 seconds faster per lap according to Pirelli, given the wider tires and additional aero. I can see RBR (Adrien Newey, really) being the one to get the formula right first, and they're not far behind at this point so that could be a battle. I foresee large changes within the Ferrari team management (AGAIN), and with Patrick Head out they're behind the 8 ball already. I expect McLaren to rise -- maybe they'll be row 3 behind Merc and RBR.

It's a 33 point gap, if Nico DNF's the gap is down to 8 if Lewis wins the same race. So it would then be interesting.

I personally don't see Nico getting a DNF, if it did happen the conspiracy theorists would be out in force for sure if it was due to engine failure.

Nico getting a DNF due to his driving is more likely, but I think the only driver he'd make contact with would be Lewis. I don't see Lewis pulling a Prost/Senna, but I wouldn't put it past Nico if Lewis closes the point gap somehow.

Only chance Lewis has is winning the last 4 races and Nico having some bad luck. Stranger things have happened, but it is very unlikely.

Damn google! I searched before my comment, and the result only showed two more races. My bad for not clicking thru to the actual schedule.
