UMW Formula 1 Discussion Thread
I am disappointed with his resignation, but I am not surprised by it. The date of his official resignation coincides with the day that Marchionne plans to list Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) publicly on the New York stock exchange. Also, there were arguments between di Montezemolo and Marchionne about the future of Ferrari, regarding exclusivity and low-volume production, that led up to this... It truly is the end of an era.
His departure is entirely about increasing the volume of road car sales. Having worked for Enzo, he was insistent on the 7k exclusivity cap. Marchionne is strictly concerned with return on capital investment. He's looking for a porsche like expansion into suv's etc. I'd dare say Marchionne understands the need for F1, but doesn't fire the head of Ferrari strictly based on F1 performance. Ferrari will not be getting anyone as "CEO" with the orders to fix the F1 program, but rather orders to sell more cars, and technology.
Indeed the beginning of the end of Ferrari's independence from Fiat corporate direction.
However, can't wait for the Dodge challenger Ferrari edition

Vettel just announced he's leaving Red Bull, and Daniel Kvyat is being promoted.

what a weekend. hope Jules pulls through -- the way they treated it on TV doesn't make it look good. I guess he had emergency surgery, presumably to relieve pressure on his head, and is now breathing on his own but still unconscious in the ICU.
