Vettel started on softs too, though, and wound up in what, eighth?
Totally agree, and Ricardo owned Vettel all year. Just sayin both of them really benefitted from the tire strategy. Neither had to really pass the chuckleheads (fill in your own Perez/Maldonado/Grossburger favorite brain dead maneuver) on the course
I agree fully on all fronts -- also, putting those supers on at the end helped them fly when others were nursing.

I think he brings money with him. We call it, "Doing a Maldanado."

This is the truth for both. There are fewer and fewer places where drivers are actually paid. More and more seats are purely economic buy ins.

Also, remember Grossburger is no better. He took out the front half of the field on the first turn last year, when he was in a semi competitive car.

I think Grossburger (love this nickname btw, totally stealing it) has actually matured a lot -- he got suspended for a race (I think it was Italy 2012? for (literally) almost killing Alonso at the start in Spa the week before) and that knocked some sense into him. He was quick last year and managed to stay clean this time around -- with those MB powerplants and hopefully getting rid of that awful, stupid, ugly tusk nose next year we might see him back in the mix. If he has a decent car and doesn't crash, he's quick.

One of my favorite memories of last year in the Lotus camp was Kimi getting in his SUV and leaving the track after his car broke down on the second lap (Brazil i think? not sure), telling the press to eff off and never coming back. dug that a lot.

Ah, now I understand how Perez still has a ride. :/

At some point he has to cost more than he brings, though.

Am I the only one excited for Alonso to be piloting a Honda-powered McLaren next year?!

...and for all the cool Alonso/Honda/McLaren gear I'll have to pick up and wear while driving my S!

Well, I'd be MORE interested if I could wear that gear while driving your S.

My problem is with the idea that I don't expect Honda to be competitive.

I had to watch the race in the car (Holly was driving)

Very pleased with Lewis winning, it would have been better if Nico could compete, but oh well. Lewis deserved the win and the DC.

I'm not sure Honda is going to be uber competitive next year with the new power plant, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I do hope Button retains his drive, I guess we'll find that out fairly soon as well.

 to Massa and Williams, here's hoping next year is as good or better.

Hey hey hey, it's F1 season again!

Friday practice thoughts: Magnussen crashed Alonso's car, the bastard. Merc way up front again, followed by the Fezzas -- seems like ALO may have left at the wrong time, yet again. Manor (nee Marussia) didn't run at all because of software issues, not sure they're going to make quali -- poor guys. I'm so happy to have stuff to talk about again!

Anyone do the F1 Access thing? They're offering a free trial for a month, $26.99 for the rest of the year. Worth it?
