[QUOTE=Kamron,Sep 9 2009, 01:49 PM] The water meter is inside, not outside the house.

1949 technology. Water line completely underground and enters the home in the basement, where the meter resides.

still though seems odd even for 1949 technology - I guess the builders thought everyone had a heterosexual marriage with their stay @ home wife in the kitchen all day. Not that it wasn't the perceived norm, but still...

Ours was the same way, the city came through at some point and installed the meter on the outside.

That's back in the day when people didn't lock their doors either though...

It's simple though, no need to worry about electrics -- it appears to be all mechanical -- and, the water line stays underground, probably below the frost line, so it won't freeze in the winter.

Well, the water is back on now, and a new meter is installed. I'm told that the new meter is "more sensitive" than the old meter; so, it looks like in the future my water bill will go up -- none of this is making much sense to me. The new meter they can apparently read by way of a radio signal. Is the new meter juiced? Or was the old meter just always giving me an advantage? I've got to look into this further because I don't trust the City -- they have enough financial troubles right now that I wouldn't put it past them that their new meters are not accurate (in the city's favor, of course)...
