Another Return

The Honda S2000 may not be coming back anytime soon (or maybe it will), but another legendary model from the automaker's past is set to return in 2023 - the Acura Integra. For now, we only have a singular teaser image to go by, but it's certainly an enticing one. Regardless, there are many questions left to answer about the 2023 Acura Integra, though we do know a few things about what to expect at this point.

How Many Doors?

One of the biggest questions revolving around the 2023 Integra is whether it will be sold as a two-door, a four-door, or both. After all, the Integra was offered as both during its previous life. MotorTrend asked Acura Brand Officer Jon Ikeda this very question, and he responded with a mere "maybe." Thus, this remains a mystery, though MT notes that the Integra will become Acura's new entry-level model, slotting beneath the ILX, so it will almost have to be sold as a four-door, perhaps with a two-door also available.

Electrified and Type S Variants

The next obvious question, considering the fact that most automakers are on the fast track to electrification, is whether or not the new Integra will be available as a hybrid or even a BEV. The answer is no, at least not at launch, and there won't be a Type S version at first, either. However, both are likely to come to fruition soon afterward.

Underpinnings

As was the case with the older Integra, the 2023 model will be based heavily on the 2022 Honda Civic, while the Type S will share components with the Type R. This is obviously good news for enthusiasts, and it's an easy choice for Honda as it can save considerable money and development time by sharing parts here.

NSX Replacement?

As the NSX is set to be discontinued (at least temporarily) following the 2022 model year, there's an open spot for Honda/Acura to have a true halo car. Interestingly enough, Ikeda says that the Integra will serve as the automaker's "budget halo car," which seems a bit odd, but it's interesting nonetheless.

No Replacement

Ikeda also noted that the Integra will not necessarily replace the ILX in Acura's lineup, even though the latter is based on the ninth-gen Civic. However, MT believes that the ILX will be discontinued following the end of the 2022 model year, at which point the Integra will essentially take its place.

Coming Soon?

As far as when the 2023 Integra will be fully revealed, well, that isn't currently clear. But we imagine that Acura will pull the covers off the reborn model at some point in early 2022 at the latest, as we'd expect the 2023 Integra to go on sale later next year.
