Default Painting Brake Calipers

When I bought my S2000 one of the previous owners had previously painted the calipers red, and the paint had chipped and come off over time.

I bought the G2 caliper paint kit from TireRack.com and the S2000 decals from MotoGFX.com. I also bought a dremel and some grinding wheels from Northern Tool and over Thanksgiving I removed most of the paint and grinded off the casting marks

Grinding and smoothing the calipers took about two hours for each of the front and one each of the rear calipers.

Fast forward to today, I bought some industrial paint stripper to remove the remaining paint and prep them for the epoxy. I had my wife do the actual painting as she has much smaller fingers and has more patience than I do.

Here is after one coat

And after two coats

Each caliper has four coats now, leaving it to cure over night before applying the decals. I'll post more pics tomorrow after its all put together.

Nice, I did the same to mine when I purchased my S! After about 2 years it started to chip bad, and currently is starting to look the 1st pics you posted. I put the decals on the other side of the caliper though on the "thin" bar and bought them off ebay. I used the same G2 paint and would recommend a powdercoat for a more durable finish. I didn't care to spend the money on pc, ill just respray them eventually! Also, I took off the tire and taped off then sprayed away for less work!

I looked into getting them powder coated but didn't want to have to rebuild the brakes. Just an FYI, if you keep your receipt, G2 has a lifetime warranty and they'll send you another kit if yours cracks or chips. I'm hoping this will last a few years, but time will tell.

Due to the cold temps last night, the paint was still a little tacky this morning so I am going to wait till tomorrow to put the decals on. Here are some pics of the final product before decals are applied:

This is a total of about 5 coats on each caliper.

Looks nice and like a thick coat that should be pretty durable!

Do you have any VHT clear ? Might help with the durability as well.

I'm hoping so, I was quite meticulous with the prep and made sure they were squeaky clean before applying the epoxy. I'm guessing like most things related to paint, the more prep you put into, the better the reults.

That's not a bad idea, but as I've gotten everything put back together, I'm hesitant to mess with them any more. If I have to redo them a couple of years down the line, I'll definitley look into a high temp clear.

If and when you do clear the rotors be sure to get the VHT SP115 Flameproof, it's rated to 2000 degrees fahrenheit. The regular VHT clear is only good up to 250 degrees.
