Default possible thrust washers in sump help

hi all had s to local garage when they discovered metal particles in sump -car had no obvious running probs at all that i was aware of - garage think it could be thrust washers going bad - has anyone had same and if so what was the outcome of any fix if appropriate - is it worth doing now car has 125000 miles on clock - if they hadnt taken off sump then i would have been none the wiser -had the car 10 years and always looked after her like a family member is it just normal wear and tear ? cant bear the thought of having a new car but on the other hand dont want to spend fortunes on it if its not gonna be any good -any help appreciated thanks

Why did the garage take the sump off if the car was running OK?

was in for cam chain and tensioner also oil pump chain just coz of high mileage - had already changed tensioner twice previously and it had started to get noisy again so presumed that chain may have stretched with age etc
