Default Vent Gauge DIY

Hey guys, so a few weeks ago I made a post asking if anyone has ever made a vent gauge for our cars and if not why. A few other people posted interested in the same thing so I decided to buy the parts I thought I would need and go for it.

Items needed:

-OEM Honda Vent (I did left hand side of the steering wheel) $55
-Dremel with sanding wheel and cutting wheel
-Plastic Epoxy or Super Glue
-2" PVC Pipe
-Black paint
-The gauge you plan on using so you can get an idea of sizing

Here are all of the items I used minus the glue and paint

As you can see I had a general idea of what I wanted it to look like.

You must begin taking apart the vent. There are a few clips on the side you must push inward and to release the horizontal pieces, once those are out you can remove the bottom spin wheel by pinching the bottom of the 2nd from the left vertical pieces, after this you can gently pry the vent apart up and down and the vertical pieces will come out, it all disassembles and you will be left with an open vent. Keep all the pieces.

Now, this is where I fit the gauge to the PVC pipe and sanded as needed. Once I opened the PVC pipe enough that the gauge slid in and out somewhat easily I cut the PVC in half and sanded it down to fit the vent.

Now, this is what I thought I wanted, but I soon realized I would have no real space left to have air come through if I did this so I decided to do it this way.

I placed the gauge in the vent without the pvc and that allowed me to determine how big the pvc piece must be.

once the PVC was sized properly I was able to remove the gauge and have the PVC piece stay. As you can see in the picture the vent is alittle stretched but thats the only way you're gonna fit a 52mm gauge in our tight vents. I sanded down the top and bottom of the gauge as much as possible but it is still tight.

Once I measured about 14times where exactly I wanted to gauge to face and how it would line up in the car I glued it into place and began cutting, sanding, and placing the horizontal pieces back in. After I placed the big horizontal pieces on the left I decided I wanted to add a few small ones on the right to make it look like they were attached straight through.

After making sure everything fit nicely I began painting, I used semi-gloss and that ended up being wayyyy to shiny, so I went with some black plastidip I had sitting around. The color is great but the texture is off.

Here is the final product..
