Default S2000 mechanics in NYS

The S won't be on the road for a while. I'm following the first piece of advice and cross posting in this forum:

Perhaps new engine block. Not sure yet which way to go.

That...doesnt look good. I think you are toast there. That cylinder appears to be too far gone for our frm coating.

I concur with advice to look for used motor.

You set out to make your motor more reliable by modifying, and ended up costing your motor. You were brave enough to post your mistake, for the benefit of others. Good man. Lesson for all to learn, be careful the actions you take to avoid something do not more quickly lead you to it. This is especially true when modifying your car to 'protect' it.

Non of your bores were measured correctly, either that or that block is warped. I'd just assume it's trashed, and get another engine.

Hope your head isn't warped, too. Cams spin free in head, with rocker arms removed?

What should measurements look like? It seems reasonable to have more wear at the top and bottom of the cylinders. Based on what you said, I took a couple more measurement runs, about a week apart, without having old data in front of me to avoid any judgement bias:

I don't have a good way to measure block flatness without buying a $100 precision flat edge. I would like to know if it really is warped though, just for my own peace of mind. Haven't pressed the buy button.

Yes, cams freely rotate. End play measures about .003"-.004" on each. According to the shop manual, new measure .002"-.006", and service limit is .012".

The minimum factory bore is 3.4256" All your bores are significantly below that.

Ah, light bulb. I'm borrowing my buddy's bore gauge, and assumed it was accurate. What is suppose to be 3.450" cals out to 3.4610" with a high precision micrometer. I didn't retake the measurements, just punched in the right number.

Not looking good, at the very least you'll need to do the whole block with oversize pistons. From what I can tell they're on backorder. You'll have less headaches cost and downtime by getting another running engine.

Oversize limit is 3.4354" after that you're better off sleeving the block.

Since the engine gets pulled for boring, I am inclined to agree with everyone and just get another block. How much work would it be to buy a (new?) bare short block and transfer everything over? Time is not really an issue at this point. There are a few online parts suppliers that sell bare blocks, not sure if they are refurbs or brand new, going for about $1800. Short blocks with oil pan, crank, pistons, rods, etc. seem to go for around $3500. Price on used long blocks widely varies, cheapest I saw was $3500. These numbers seem about right?
